Since hockey is one of the fastest growing sports splitting up the NHL can increase revenue, reduce travelling costs, and grow internationally. The three leagues are the Eastern Hockey Leagues (EHL), Pacific Hockey League (PHL), the Central Hockey League (CHL), and the Canadian Hockey Association (CHA) Tier A. The leagues will also expand by bringing in more teams.

The winners of each of the four leagues go on to play in the IIHF Champions League to compete with international teams for the Stanley Cup.
