Following the collapse of Midway, Warner Bros and Netherealm decided that the 2008 game Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe deserved a sequel. However, Marvel comics approached them as well saying that they wanted a fighting game produced. In addition, Capcom wanted a fourth installment in the "Marvel VS Capcom" series. After a hasty aggreement between DC and Marvel, Mortal Kombat VS DC Nation VS Marvel Universe VS Capcom was announced and is set to be released in 2014. The US will have Xbox 720, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and PS3 versions in stores on June 30th, 2014, and the 3DS/Vita platfoms on July 7th, 2014. UK, Australia, and Japan will recieve all of these on July 23rd, 2014, followed by the rest of the world on August 2nd, 2014. A Mac and PC version has been in slow development and isn't predicted to come out until October of 2014.
After Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe, both the Mortal Kombat Warriors and the DC Heros and Villians have gone beck to their respective worlds. Unfortunatley, Lex Luthor used some stolen notes from Jax's portal to create a bridge between the worlds. Luthoruses this to team up with Quan Chi, who then frees both Darkseid and Shao Kahn. Due to a portal malfunction, he also ends up on an alternate Earth (Marvel Universe), and frees the monster Thanos.
In additon to this, Quan Chi and Shao Kahn begin recruitng people to join them, namley Scorpion, Shnag Tsung, Baraka, and Kano, to fight with them. Lex Luthor and Darkseid does the same on the DC Earth, and Thanos does it on the Marvel Earth. While Thanos is recruiting, he stumbles across the Capcom Universe. He continue his work there.
But the effect of releasing these villians has an horrid backlash, the Rage is once again flowing in the warriors.
One difference between this game and Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe is that the violence level has been changed to reflect the style of Mortal Kombat more. The fatalities are much more bloody as well as the Klose Kombat attacks. This being said, they are still slightly toned down from MK9.
