You can call the Guardians whatever you want to. But to the rest of the galaxy, all the people we've helped crawl out from under you and crap like you... the Guardians are the good guys. Not to brag, but we actually go out of our way to help people. We help people who can't help themselves.
Guardians of the Galaxy are a fictional superhero team appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning formed the team from existing and previously unrelated characters created by a variety of writers and artists, with an initial roster of Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Phyla-Vell, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, and Adam Warlock.
These Guardians first appeared in Annihilation: Conquest #6 (April 2008). A feature film based on this team was released in 2014 to critical acclaim. Two sequels entitled, titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, were released in 2017 and 2023 respectively, and the team has also been featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022). This Guardians team is the second to operate under the name, following the original team created by Arnold Drake, Roy Thomas and Stan Lee in 1969.
Changed name to Martyr in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 #12 (May 2009). An alternate reality counterpart joins in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 5 #1 as Captain Marvel.
Decided to stay in space in Legendary Star-Lord vol. 1 #8 (March 2015). Started travelling with the Guardians in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 #26 (June 2015). Officially joined the team in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 4 #1 (December 2015). Took the Star-Lord codename from Peter Quill.
